A 'Hall of Fame' songwriter and recipient of the National Music Publishers President's Award, Williams' standards have been covered by such diverse musical icons as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, David Bowie, Tony Bennett, Sarah Vaughn, Johnny Matthis, The Carpenters, John Denver, Andy Williams, Art Garfunkel, Judy Collins, Bing Crosby, Luther Vandross, REM, Mel Torme and Diana Ross, as well as country legends including Chet Atkins, Garth Brooks, Kris Kristofferson, Charlie Pride, Crystal Gayle, Anne Murray, Lynn Anderson, The Oak Ridge Boys, Diamond Rio and Neil McCoy. And, of course, The Muppets.

"The Rainbow Connection" (from the children's classic "The Muppet Movie") is one of two Paul Williams songs that grace the American Film Institute's list of the top movie songs of all time. The other, "Evergreen", is from the award-winning "A Star Is Born" (starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson). Other film scores include "The Muppet Christmas Carol" and "Bugsy Malone" as well as cult favourites "Phantom Of The Paradise" and "Ishtar". Williams also wrote "I Know Him By Heart" for the finale of Ally McBeal, recorded by Vonda Shepherd, and teamed up with Carole King to write "Stand Back" (sung by Joan Osborne) for "Raising Helen". He has recently completed the music and lyrics for the Garry Marshall musical "Happy Days" and is co-writing the stage version of "Chicken Soup For The Soul" with Mark Victor and Patty Hansen, and scoring the show with his long-time musical director, Chris Caswell.

The list of Williams' acting credits is almost as long as his songs: among them, "The Muppet Movie", "The Doors", "Battle For The Planet Of The Apes", "Phantom Of The Paradise" and three "Smokey And The Bandit" films, as well as television appearances on "Star Trek", "Hart To Hart" and various other series and even the voice of the Penguin on the "Batman" animated series.

But it is as a singer/songwriter that Williams first entered the public eye. "We've Only Just Begun", "Rainy Days And Mondays", "Let Me Be The One", "You And Me Against The World", "Just An Old-Fashioned Love Song", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "That's What Friends Are For" are just a handful of the songs that have sold hundreds of millions of records worldwide.

Williams is also very active on the speakers circuit across America, talking about his life and career, and is actively involved with various rehabilitation organisations following a personal battle with drugs and alcohol.
